At the start of 2023 I decided I was going to make a monthly visit to the Lanthwaite Wood (North) end of Crummock Water.

There is a proposal by United Utilities to make quite significant changes to the structures around the lake, including the removal of the concrete walling and the weirs and bridges. This work will have a noticeable impact on the natural features. It is anticipated that the level of the lake will drop considerably, while other areas I believe will become waterlogged.

I wanted to make a personal photographic record in order to create my own photography ‘yearbook’ before any of the works started. I decided to concentrate most of my activity in the location of a pair of trees situated on the lake shore. However, to reach the trees I pass over a number of footbridges and pass along a lakeshore path. It is my understanding that these are all to be removed.

I made most of my visits at or around sunrise, although the trip in October was at the end of the day.

The 2023 project started on January 26th and I completed my final photographs in the series on December 15th.

On the project page of my website I have included a selection of photographs made during my 12 visits to the north end of Crummock Water in 2023 and in early 2024 I compiled a photographic book that I had printed by Saal Digital.

This area of Crummock Water was one of the first places I visited when I started my photography and it was during this vacation to the Lake District in late 2014 that plans were formulated for me to move to Cumbria with my husband.

I have made numerous visits in the last decade and it holds a very special place in my heart.
